Program Description:

The School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University is sponsoring a summer program on Middle East peace, funded through a generous donation by Newcomb College alumna Stacy Mandel-Palagye.  The program will pay all expenses for 15 selected Tulane undergraduates to take three intensive courses on the Middle East on the Tulane campus during the last two weeks of May and then travel to Jerusalem, during the first three weeks of June to participate in a series of workshops, field trips, and other activities focusing on the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Tulane faculty members will teach the three courses and lead the trip to Israel.  Participants will receive six credit-hours for the three intensive courses.

This program is open to Tulane undergraduates who (i) demonstrate, through relevant course work, academic commitment to the study of the Arab-Israeli conflict, (ii) are enrolled full time in the past fall and current spring semesters, and (iii) will be enrolled full time as undergraduates at Tulane in the upcoming fall semester.

A review of applications will occur soon after the application deadline.  Applicants approved at this stage may be interviewed and asked to submit academic transcripts and/or academic recommendation before a final group of participants is chosen.  The criteria for admission into the program are a high level of academic achievement; prior coursework relating to the Middle East region; strong, demonstrated interest in the region; and evidence of cross-cultural sensitivity.
